For this performance, I removed the bases of the dishes and cooking pots and washed them. I aimed to disrupt and negate the function of the object but perform the act.
In this work, I think about social customs and fixed gender roles in our society. I came to realize that most people in our society are policing each other to make sure that these unwritten rules are applied. For example; in extended family gatherings when there is a big feast, as a woman, I’m expected to show up early to help with preparing the food, then after eating the meal, all women immediately start washing the dishes, if you wish as a woman to refuse to perform these rules you become excluded and a subject of criticism.
